Artists of all stripes encouraged to share their art Conceptions

Staff Report

Attention all poets, writers and artists, put down your Ramen and canned pea soufflÇ and listen up - Conceptions Southwest is now accepting submissions. And no, they don't pay. Maybe you should hold on to your cuisine.

The magazine does publish. It accepts submissions from any and all students, faculty, staff and alumni. CSW is a showcase for UNM talent, and let me remind you, a great opportunity to see your coffee-stained napkin poetry in printed type.

We could tell you that it's an available avenue for gaining experience in all aspects of creating a publication. Or we could tell you Conceptions is also a good rÇsumÇ builder.

Your mom would mention that graduate schools and other publications are going to look for your experience and your accomplishments. This might be a way to get her off your back about that theater/creative-writing/pottery degree.

What CSW accepts (this list would be shorter if it was about what we don't accept): poetry, fiction, short fiction, comic art, art, photography and spanish language submissions.

The deadline is Nov. 29 at 5 p.m. for all submissions. Grab a submission form in the CSW or Classified Advertising office in Marron Hall. Submit, we dare you. Actually, we double-dog dare you, and you know what that means.

CSW is also having its annual Poetry, Fiction and Cover Art Contest. Anything submitted by Nov. 8 by 5 p.m. will be considered. Use the same submission form we mentioned before.

Our next event will be Friday, Nov. 8 from 7-9 p.m. at Irysh Mac's Coffeehouse. We are featuring the well-known local poets, Kenn Rodr°guez, Sari Krosinsky and Curtis Daulton. There will be an open mic afterwards - come, speak your piece.

Looking for a job of ultimate prestige and little pay? We're still looking for people who are interested in working on the magazine in the following capacities:

Poetry Editor and Staff

Fiction Staff

Arts Editor and Staff

Spanish Staff
