COLUMN: British show exposes pop king

Staff Editorial

Northern Star (Northern Illinois U.)

(U-WIRE) DEKALB, Ill. -- The flaming car crash that is Michael Jackson maintains its steady share of gapers.

Last week, millions of Americans blocked traffic in front of their televisions to watch the eternal flames reach unprecedented heights in the documentary "Life With Michael Jackson."

Immediately following the airing of the show in Britain, Jackson's legal team filed a complaint with the country's news watchdogs, saying the documentary "contains the clear innuendo that Mr. Jackson is guilty of inappropriate behavior with children."

The "innuendo" he is referred to might be the fact that Jackson said he "slept in bed with many children."

Guess what Jacko, that is inappropriate behavior!

With all the money this guy makes, you would think he could afford the best therapist, because he needs one.

Jackson also said in a written statement for the public that he feels more "betrayed than perhaps ever before" because he allowed the British journalist Martin Bashir "into [his] heart and told the truth."

Double shame on you Mr. Jackson for expecting a journalist not to tell the truth especially when everyone already knows it anyway. What does Jackson expect? All this documentary did was reaffirm many of the impressions people have about orphan.

Who are these people surrounding Jackson? With the massive entourage that follows him everywhere he goes, isn't one of them capable of telling him what is proper and what isn't? Doesn't he have any real friends or has he alienated everyone thanks to his failure to mature?

Jackson once was a great artist, but those days are over. While 14 million viewers watched the documentary in Europe, a little more than two million bought his last album. This is a sure sign that it's time to call a tow truck and haul this mess away for good.
