LETTER: No answers for modern war

Editor,

In light of the fact that our economy is struggling, unemployment is down and the fate of Social Security and Medicaid is uncertain, those 'persons' from the government who are here to help us have come up with a solution.

They're going to increase nuclear spending back to the levels of its greatest height back in the Cold War hey days of the 1980s. To cover the costs of this innovative idea they are going to cut taxes. I think it's important that we have the ability to destroy the world 15 times over, rather than just once or twice to help our country.

Or maybe it is necessary for national security. Because once we locate the terrorists in our country that are going to attack at any minute now, we can nuke 'em. Err . . . wait a minute, then we would be nuking ourselves. Maybe it is to prevent Iraq from launching their nukes. So then I guess we need to be able to turn their countries into parking lots 100 times over instead of just 10, when their "imminent" weapons of mass destruction attack transpires. Or hey, we'll just do a preemptive nuclear strike. Seems like national security is part of that "red, white and blue disguise" that the former band Rage Against the Machine asked us to see through.

Never mind that un-American, unpatriotic, noise pollution. I say spend the money. What was that adage about those who don't learn history are destined to ...? Never mind, drop the nukes. Drop them everywhere. Hey, at least when our innocent civilians die they will have money in their pockets, or at least the rich ones who actually benefit from the tax cuts will have a little more. And who really cares about the poor, desolate, civilians in the rest of the world that will suffer endlessly from our wrath?

But, hey all that nuking won't really happen. And besides, once we take over the Middle East and the rest of the world, we can get our money back from the oil revenues. Well, at least the rich people in America will get it back.

I think Bush and his cronies need to wake up and smell the . . . radiation? But, I'll probably get locked up for writing this, along with the Daily Lobo for printing it. Under Ashcroft's brilliant Patriot Act 2, he can arrest us without telling anyone, hold us indefinitely and refuse to let us consult with counsel if we support terrorism . . . What was that thing . . . that cons . . . ti

. . . tu . . . ? Never mind. If nothing else maybe I'll get drafted, or all of us will, if those excellent senators get their draft. Then we can all go kill those evil Iraqis, and even get killed ourselves. I think Bush's nuclear spending increase is just living up to Plato's axiom, "Only the dead have seen the end of war."

Thanks, Supreme Court, for giving us such a great leader.
