Letter: Spring may bring Union action

Editor,

The silent majority of United Staff-UNM is alive and well.

However, after reading the Regents' resolution on labor relations management, I realize that we have missed the opportunity this year to proceed with the petition process.

The appropriate time frame for submission of a petition for a decertification election would be between March 30 and April 30 of the year in which the contract expires.

I urge all non-voting members of US-UNM to take the time to read the Regents' Resolution on labor relations management, specifically section E-4. It can be accessed through UNM's Human Resources Web site.

I have been part of the silent majority for too long, but we can all get involved. You must take an active interest in things that concern you on campus.

If you want to move from apathy to active participation in managing your own destiny, join me next spring in the petition drive to ask the Board of Regents to initiate the process for a decertification election of US-UNM.

We can and should begin preparations now to follow through in spring 2004.

Let's keep this issue alive. Please write letters, just as I have. We can get started now.

UNM Admissions Officer
