One of the reasons cockfighters give for legitimatising their "sport" is because it is a tradition. In many cases a tradition is a man's inclination to subjugate women, children and animals.
In many societies women are raped, beaten, enslaved as sexual toys, exploited as wives, sold for money, used for entertainment and cheap labor and subjugated in other ways that defy the imagination but are considered traditions.
In these same societies, women and animals are considered inferior, cute, childish, uncontrollable, emotional, impulsive, instinctive, irrational, evil and objects to misuse and abuse.

In some societies it is a tradition to deny baby girls food, drown or suffocate them or break their spines. In some societies it is a tradition to sell women and young girls into slavery for purposes of prostitution. In some societies women are traditionally doused in gasoline and set on fire because their marriage dowries are considered to be too small. In some societies women who are raped are charged with adultery. In some societies young girls are traditionally subjected to the painful and humiliating practice of genital mutilation.
In some societies women are forced to have abortions and in others they are denied the right to have them if they wish. In neither case are they asked their opinion. One thing is certain, if men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament.
Every year in the United States alone, millions of animals are enslaved, tortured and murdered in animal agriculture, vivisection laboratories, by hunters and fishermen looking for trophies, in traps, on fur farms and by other modes of human exploitation such as blood sports.
In some societies, including parts of New Mexico, roosters are buried up to their necks in sand. Men, and I use the term loosely, ride by on horses and grab the rooster by the neck and pull off their head.
In Canada it is a tradition for seal hunters to club baby seals, skin them while they are alive and cut off the baby seal's penis. The seals' penises are sold as aphrodisiacs for men who can't get an erection without eating another animal's sex organ. Canada isn't the only uncivilized country when it comes to selling animal's body parts for sexual gratification. Ground rhinoceros horn, snake blood, elephant tusks, whale blubber, various animal testicles, penises, hearts and livers and meat from young male animals such as veal are all sold as, or are considered aphrodisiacs in various parts of the world.
In this country there is a tradition by some nutcases to put a small dog and a ferret in a trashcan and let them fight until the screaming stops. This "sport" prohibits the weak stomached morons from having to watch these two animals destroy each other. This barbarism is called weaseling.
The cockfighter's contention that their sport is a tradition is all the more reason to outlaw it. Cockfighting may not be as bad as genital mutilation in young girls, but it is evil just the same and the people who practice all of the so-called traditions I mentioned, including cockfighting, are demonic by nature.
Another reason cockfighters use to justify their activities is because it is biblical and they believe God is a cockfighter. This is pure nonsense and I firmly believe these people who fight and kill chickens in cockfights are actually practitioners of Voodoo, a religion where chickens are routinely slaughtered. To show the idiocy of the religious argument the chicken fighters use, I would like to share a letter I got from one of their more eloquent members.
"Hey man. What are you tryin to do. You can't stop us form (sic) cockfigthing. It is a fact of the Bible. I am a preacher and I know my Bible. God gives humans dominos (sic) over all other animals. We can do what we want as we see fit. Cockfighting has been around since Moses and it will be around when Jesus comes back. I can say you better not be around when Jesus gets back or you are going to hell.
Cockfighting is a king's sport. God made women and chickens for men's plesure (sic). That's why we have more ribs than women and brains than chickens. Obvously (sic) you don't have any brains or you would read the Bible and know cockfighting is Gods chosen sport. You ain't goin to rite (sic) no cockfighting book about us an try to make us look stuped (sic). God ain't goin to allow it. You are a fool and a commie lovin' homosexal (sic) and you goin to hell. The Bible says so."
This is a real letter just as I received it.
The only thing I took out was his religion, which I deleted so as not to embarrass normal people who go to the same church as this fellow.
Cockfighting is a tradition and / or a religious experience? All I can say to that is - Bullshit!
