Suspected heroin found in separate incidents
Campus police are looking into three separate cases involving syringes containing suspected drugs discovered on campus.
UNM Hospital staff reported to campus police that they found three syringes, two containing a brown liquid, in a patient's room on Oct. 6. They also reported finding a small bag containing an unknown white powder.
Police took both items into evidence.
On Oct. 16 another patient at UNM Hospital was suspected of having a syringe filled with heroin. The report states that a staff member in the hospital discovered the syringe in a patient's room and took it away. Police tested the substance in the needle and determined it was heroin, the report states.
A UNM police officer reported he found a capped syringe in the police department's basement Oct. 20 that was filled with 40 units of a brown fluid. The syringe was removed and tagged for destruction.
