Staff Report
UNM's School of Architecture and Planning has been ranked among the top 40 architectural programs in the country for its value.
DesignIntelligence, which ranked the UNM program as 28 in the United States, also ranked the University's architecture faculty ninth in the country for national teaching awards.
The rankings came in the magazine's December issue.
"The ranking by DesignIntelligence only confirms what we have long known: the professional architecture degree program at the University of New Mexico provides an exceptional educational opportunity at a comparatively affordable price," said Roger Schluntz, dean of the UNM School of Architecture and Planning, in a University news release.
The magazine's rankings in its "America's Best Architecture and Design Schools," are based on six measures: survey of practitioners, selectivity, culture and learning environment, resources, reputation of dean/faculty/students and tuition.

According to the magazine's Web site, the publication's rankings of universities and their respective programs are becoming increasingly noticed because its counterpart, U.S. News and World Report, does not have a ranking program.
Schluntz said the last visiting accreditation team to the school commented on how impressed its team members were with the faculty's ability to provide significant educational value with its somewhat limited resources and facilities
"We are also very fortunate to have talented and extraordinarily dedicated students in the program, with a wonderful history of our graduates assuming leadership positions in New Mexico and throughout the country," he said.
Andy Pressman, director of UNM's architecture program, said the magazine's ninth place ranking of the faculty is higher than such prestigious schools as Princeton, Yale and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
"In a strong research-based institution, it is rewarding to see our program acknowledged for excellent instruction," Pressman said in a University news release.
The UNM program's faculty tied with Cornell, University of Minnesota, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and University of Texas at Austin for the ninth place ranking.
