Staff Report
UNM basketball player Josh Jenkins is being investigated on allegations of sexual assault.
Jenkins denies the allegations saying the sex was consensual in an Albuquerque Police report, according to an Albuquerque Journal article.
He was suspended indefinitely from the men's basketball team, head coach Ritchie McKay said in a statement issued July 27.
In the statement, McKay said he would not comment on the reason for the suspension.
He has since said he would not comment on the allegations, according to the Albuquerque Journal article.
The article stated he had not been arrested or charged.
The District Attorney's Office will decide whether to press charges, according to the article.
McKay stated in the July 27 statement "There is potential for Josh to be reinstated pending further review."
Jenkins played one season at New Mexico State before transferring after the 2005 spring semester to UNM and joining the Lobos as a walk-on.
Because he was a transfer from another Division I school, he would have to sit out the 2005-2006 season. If McKay allows him to rejoin the team, he will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Jenkins averaged 10.1 points per game and 3.5 assists per game, starting 21 games for NMSU.

He initially transferred from the Aggies because newly hired head coach Reggie Theus said Jenkins wouldn't fit into NMSU's long-term plans.
Jenkins graduated from Valley High School and had 26 points and 8.4 assists per game as a senior.
