Entering the new college football season, I have two simple questions: will Matt Leinart become a two-time winner of the Heisman trophy and can anybody stop the University of Southern California from dominating the national championship?
Media members are looking for an heir to the Trojans' throne with teams such as Oklahoma, Michigan and Ohio State. But with Oklahoma suffering the most humiliating loss in five years against Mountain West Conference newcomer TCU, and Michigan and Ohio State losing in week two, those teams have now turned into pretenders.
Adrian Peterson has been proclaimed the "Chosen One" to steal Leinart's Heisman trophy, but his lackluster performance against TCU may hurt his Heisman chances.
With some of the big dogs dropping off in both the national title and the Heisman races, fans are baffled as to who will come to save the day.
Lucky you're reading this, because I might be able to provide some insight on who will sneak in and become contenders.
Let's start with a Heisman candidate who will ruin Leinart's repeat. Texas's Vince Young combines great passing ability with powerful legs that will make defensive backs seem like their chasing after the name Vick instead of Young. If Young can have impressive wins against Oklahoma and Texas Tech, there will be no doubt he is the best football player in the country.
LSU and Texas have strong defenses and resilient offenses that may give USC the toughest challenge in potential championship games. If LSU can overcome the distraction of their hometown being affected by the hurricane, it could bring the Louisiana area a national title.
College football's premiere teams must stay focused on remaining undefeated because USC juggernaut will finally be derailed this season.
