Letter: Maintenance on shortcuts doing more harm than good

Editor,

I originally blew off the article "Shortcuts mean more maintenance" in the Daily Lobo several weeks ago as ridiculous because it didn't affect me, but now our beautiful path through the woods on the corner of University and Central is under attack.

Not only has UNM attempted to deter us pedestrians by flooding the entry point, which only damages the land further, but now they have completely roped it off. What exactly are you planning, Dave Trujillo? To plant grass again? That is futile.

This and every other path you "repair" will be replaced. I can't believe you think people will stop taking shortcuts. Don't you understand that you don't control where paths are laid - the pedestrians have and always will.

What you need to learn is that you must accommodate pedestrians, not spend - or should I say waste - large sums of money to fight them.
