Editor,
Honestly, is this what we are left to complain about?
Ritchie McKay has put up with the microscope since he arrived at the University of New Mexico. Isn't it time to say enough is enough? McKay has been able to do something for the men's basketball program that many die-hard fans thought was long gone. He has been able to reach his players on a level beyond the basics of hoops.
No, not Christ, but their brains. He has taught them to think not just about playing ball but success in every aspect of their lives. He took his position as a coach and used it to mentor. The only role his Christianity played in the matter is that it allowed him to actually care what happens to these guys.
Look at the flip side of the situation - if not the ACLU, then some other you-don't-care-about-my-kid association would be outraged by McKay's behavior. Come on, people, let's stop this "Flanagan is racist" and "McKay is too Christian" complaining.
Take a breath and be excited about the success of these players, not just as athletes, but as members of our community and students who have worked hard to be where they are.
