Nob Hill rummage sale for charity

by Joe Buffaloe

Everyone loves a good rummage sale.

Cheap furniture. An occasional cool T-shirt. Stacks of random CDs. Shopping the way it's meant to be.

This Sunday, though, it will also be for a good cause.

The Nob Hill Business Association is having a rummage sale to benefit Habitat for Humanity, which hopes to build affordable new homes for those who live in the regions affected by Hurricane Katrina. Proceeds from this sale will go to Habitat for Humanity.

"Almost anybody you see walking down the street either knows someone or has family affected by Katrina," said Beverly Johnson, owner of Studio One and a member of the business association. "We wanted to help because a business association has a lot to offer."

The Nob Hill Business Association is made up of independent retailers in the Nob Hill district as well as a few non-independent retailers like Flying Star and Buffalo Exchange, said K.C. Roehl, owner of Abode.

Businesses in the district are helping out by working at the sale and by donating a lot of the merchandise.

"What makes this rummage sale different is that most of the merchandise comes right from our stores," Johnson said. "There will be everything from furniture to art to jewelry to clothing - anything you'd normally find in our stores."

The rummage sale will also include donated items that are both new and used.
