Editor,
I would like to commend Colin Donoghue's article regarding the policies of the Bush administration and the teachings of Jesus Christ.
It is about time someone recognized that not all people who hold religion and Jesus close to their hearts are always conservative Republicans. I grew up a Catholic, baptized and confirmed to the church. However, at the same time I am a liberal.
I never understood how people could be so naive as to say that they love God and Jesus and could so much as use George Bush in the same sentence - that is blasphemy. I have a few friends who are Republicans, many of whom voted for Bush because of their religious beliefs.
When I ask them questions such as, "Why doesn't Bush follow Jesus' beatitudes, like blessed are the merciful, and blessed are the peace-makers," they usually respond with, "What are the beatitudes?"
They are under the false pretense that Bush is following God's orders, but the president is obviously ignoring Jesus' teachings.
