Editor,
I'm a utility plant tech for Ford Utilities on campus. I'm also one quarter
American Indian - specifically, Isleta Pueblo. I read the Daily Lobo almost every day, and while flipping through the Nov. 23 issue, I came

Monument. For a university- educated person to reduce a proud group of American Indians such as the Pueblo people of New Mexico to just some "people that went up there and drew stuff" is ridiculous and ignorant. The Petroglyph National Monument is a holy and historical site for the Pueblo people of New Mexico. If the Paseo del Norte extension had not been included in the bill to repair Albuquerque's streets last election, we would not be in this situation. If this were a Catholic holy site on the mesa or an old Christian cemetery, there would be no question as to whether they would build a road through it. It would never happen. But because the site is American Indian, no one cares. It is bad enough American Indians
are so poorly represented and portrayed in this society, but it bothers me when someone who is supposed to be educated reduces us to some people who made some drawings on a mesa.
