Editor,
Having read Katy Knapp's article, "Students complain of library clamor," I couldn't agree more.
I haven't experienced noise from events in the Willard Room - however, there are tours that take individuals through Zimmerman. The Zimmerman guides and guests are extremely loud. They have discussions about the artwork and the history of the library, and they do so in a tone that bellows through the entire West Wing. Zimmerman guests even walk around students while they're trying to study.
On two different occasions, I've even experienced people hollering from the East Wing to get the attention of someone near the Willard room so that they could view the Painted Horse mural. This happened as a tour guide stood smiling and showed no concern for the inappropriate behavior.
It is unbelievably disheartening that the Zimmerman administration permits such behavior at the expense of students' education.
The Zimmerman administration and its campus guests should respect that it is a library - students should come first, not Zimmerman's public relations efforts.
