Discrimination at UNM
Discrimination can take many different forms, but there is no question every form is damaging. Especially when a Public University is perpetrating it. I am amazed at the level of incompetence in the administration of UNM's Nursing program, and the lack of oversight by UNM's administrators.
The plain fact is that the Nursing Department discriminates against "Out of State Students". Out of state students are held to a much greater standard of admittance, they (UNM) put up road blocks, and make statements "as long as you are an out of state resident you will never be accepted into our program". All this is after you were encouraged to enroll and transfer to UNM. Here is an idea, why doesn't UNM expand its nursing program to include out of state students? Out of state students PAY tuition, raise the standards, and provide more diversity. At the very least UNM has a responsibility NOT to encourage students start down a path with them that ultimately leads to a brick wall. This is my third child I am putting through college and it's confusing enough without all the deception. We have been damaged both in time and financially by UNM.
I certainly understand a State College protecting, and sheltering some of its programs for the benefit of lesser qualified in state students. However where do you draw the line? New Mexico gives out the Lottery Scholarships to residents, and as an example with UNMs Nursing program the majority (if not all) of its spots go to in state residents. What a great message to send our future leaders "New Mexico is going to pay for you to go to college, and were going to shelter you from competing with the rest of the country"
I can go on and on pointing out the errors, lies, and deception from UNM. However, its time to pack my daughter up and send her to a different university.
