Editor,
I am writing in response to a letter that appeared in Monday's Daily Lobo. Ben Mills claimed the media is biased, since it has not reported the positive influences from the invasion of Iraq, such as schools being built and policemen being trained.
There may be a reason for that.
What was the strategic objective of the invasion? To rebuild schools? The Soviet Union did similar things after invading Afghanistan. Did the media constantly report on that? No. Everyone could see it was aggression by an empire.
As for training Iraqi police and military, every American should know that loyalty trumps training. The British were better trained than the American Colonials, but who won? In Vietnam, we trained the South Vietnamese to fly jets and helicopters, but who won?
Maybe this holiday season, Mills should visit families who lost sons and daughters in Iraq and give them Defense Department information.
