Lobos 4-2 after loss to Aggies

While New Mexico State University made its free throws down the stretch, UNM was unable to convert its opportunities.

The Lobos had their chances to take a lead or tie the game in the closing minutes, but they fell short against the Aggies 67-61 on Saturday night. NMSU improves to 2-3 on the season while UNM falls to 4-2.

The Lobos rallied from a 13-point, first-half deficit, but were unable to overcome the Aggies in Las Cruces. UNM is now 0-2 on the road this season.

NMSU did not score a field goal in the last six minutes of the game, but made 15 of its last 17 free throws to secure the victory. The Aggies shot 83 percent from the stripe, making 30-of-36 free throws.

UNM performed poorly at the free-throw line, shooting 59 percent. The Lobos missed three of their last four free throws and were 16-of-27 from the stripe in the game.

The Lobos also struggled to make field goals, shooting 33 percent from the field for a season low.

Mark Walters led the lobos with 18 points and did not turn the ball over in 35 minutes. Tony Danridge scored 12, but he was one of several players to miss a late shot.

NMSU's Tyrone Nelson led all scorers with 21 points. He finished with a double-double, chipping in 10 rebounds. Nelson scored 11 of his points from the free-throw line, including a pair with 20 seconds left.
