the daily lobo asks you:

Tuition will be increased by at least 5.3 percent next year to help pay for an inflation in utility costs, insurance premiums and library funding. Do you agree with this? Why or why not?

Mallery Quetawki

Sophomore

Biology

"If they are going to

start raising tuition,

they should start putting

money toward

safety on campus,

not utilities."

J.C. Lovelace

Junior

Pharmacy

"I guess utilities are

kind of important if we

are going to be here.

I don't really understand

why they keep

raising tuition. To me,

it's lame."

Ana Salazar

Sophomore

Business management

"It's hard to say. We

go to this school, we

use the library, we

use the SUB, which

takes a lot of power.

But then it sucks for

us because we have

to pay for it. But we

need it. I would probably

say yes."

Nic Marchand

Sophomore

Business management

"I actually disagree

with it. Some of us are

trying to work through

college. That's not

saying the library is

not important, but it

needs to be balanced

with trying to get as

many people higher

education."

Elizabeth McDonald

Graduate student

Art studio

"Tuition is pretty

cheap already, but

I don't know. UNM

utilities seem kind of

strange. That seems

something the state

should pay for, since

it's a university."

Jonathan Loth

Senior

Fine arts

"The library is somewhat

of a justifiable

reason, but I wouldn't

want my tuition increased

just for utilities.

I think an increase

should go to

help the students, not

just to run the place."
