Editor,
This is to address the issue of embryonic stem cell research, which Gov. Richardson wants to fund with state money. I think there are moral ramifications involved here. First of all, Richardson believes this research does not pose a pro-life issue. He could not be more wrong. All humans start out as a single-celled organism. What right do we have to kill this person? Imagine if that embryo was you or someone you love. You would have never experienced life, and you never would have known your loved one. Can you imagine life without those you love? Don't they deserve a chance at life?
Secondly, Richardson wants to use state money to fund this task. Those of us who find this practice unethical are going to be compromising our beliefs by funding it. Just because he doesn't realize the pro-life issues involved doesn't mean he has to impose this research on those who are bothered by it.
Finally, adult stem cell research would be the less controversial way of finding cures for diseases. It has been proven to be more effective. Maybe Richardson should consider this and other alternatives to curing diseases. I would love for people with diabetes, Parkinson's disease and other ailments to be cured, but not at the expense of someone else, especially when this someone else does not have a say in the matter.
