Editor,
When I read the article by
Damian Garde in the Tuesday Daily Lobo about the similarities between right-wingers and hip-hop, I was stunned. Hip-hop isn't that bad.
True, hip-hop artists talk about toting guns and doing drugs, but there are some good aspects to rap.
Eminem may have made comments which appeared xenophobic in the past, but if you listen a little closer to his songs, you will pick up the true theme, which is stopping censorship. Maybe Kanye West wasn't the poorest kid on the block, but he definitely isn't poor now, and that shows social mobility. West also talks about raising the minimum wage in his songs - I don't think Republicans will be playing that tune anytime soon.
Rap often speaks about hardships and social inequality. As far as I know, those sound like issues some Democrats are working on. I agree we should get rid of the Bush administration, but let's throw the rappers out of the mix.
