Bears' defense will be no match for Manning's wits

by Andre van der Merwe

Super Bowl Sunday is the day where people from all walks of life can watch two teams battle it out for one of the most coveted prizes in all of sports - the Lombardi Trophy.

Well, at least most people will enjoy the game from home. According to Maxim magazine, the average Super Bowl attendee this year rakes in at least $125,000 annually.

So, unless you're a tenured professor, you're likely to be just another couch potato Sunday.

Still, the game itself should be pretty entertaining. When the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears battle, it is going to consist of some of the most dominating displays of offense and defense our generation has seen.

Since the start of the Peyton Manning era, the Colts' offense has been a bigger scoring factory than Tara Reid.

As for the Bears, they have shot down more offensive onslaughts than a prude girl at a frat party. Some say defense wins games, and so far, the Bears' stellar season has seemed to support that. I mean, their quarterback isn't even a key to their success.

Quarterback Rex Grossman has the job all football fans, myself included, dream about. He gets paid like the son of an oil tycoon for taking snaps and handing the ball off to someone who actually deserves to be there.

All Grossman has to do is not turn the ball over, which is probably the reason he got drafted in the first place.

I'm not sure it's a fact, but I believe that the Bears' special teams have more touchdowns than the offense has points.

However, even though Grossman is about as bad as Donald Trump's hair, they are both still around. And it's not just the Bears' special teams and lack of turnovers that will give the team a shot to win the Lombardi Trophy - the defense, led by Brian Urlacher, is key to its success.

Not only will it be hard for the Colts to match the speed of the Bears' defense, but they also have to match wits.

After watching Manning change his mind at the line every play, I start to believe he can get it done. There isn't a man out there that can read Manning's mind - and if there is, I guarantee you he is not lined up on the Bears' defense. The tricky Manning and his deceptions are going to give the Colts an advantage against the Bears on

Sunday.

Prediction: Colts 31, Bears 28.
