Best Student Essays is extending its deadline to March 9.
"We always get good work but always at the last minute," said Scott Frank, editor of the
publication.

"There are always people who need a little more time."
An instructor must nominate a student's submission but not necessarily the instructor the essay was written for.
Best Student Essays is a first-publishing experience for many students, Frank said.
"We really enjoy being a part of that, and it's definitely a thrill for the writers," he said. "It's a real publication, so you can put that down on your rÇsumÇ or your CV, and some things do get picked up. People who have been published have been asked to speak. It's a good way to get exposure in your subject of interest."
Every semester, the publication publishes essays from
undergraduate and graduate students.
"Best Student Essays is looking really good," Frank said. "It's getting a better reputation among the grad students because they weren't aware they could submit. It's for everybody, all the students."
It accepts research papers, personal memoirs and photo essays.
Three winners, as chosen by a panel of three judges, are awarded money. First place gets $75, second place gets $35 and third place gets $15. Submissions are judged on clarity of intent, writing quality, appropriateness of length (concise is always good), quality of supporting material and originality.
Essays should be double-spaced and printed on one side of the page.
Submissions can be turned in to Room 131 of Marron Hall. The magazine is free and available at the publication's office or Zimmerman Library. It is published every May and December.
