An outfit is a work of art most people take for granted. It takes an eye for color and a knack for frugality to be successful at decorating your human canvas - unless you're rich. If you're rich, what I have to present probably doesn't concern you, but congratulations on your prosperity. Here are the retail secrets of a few fashionable students I found strolling around campus.

Fleming likes to do most of his shopping at Chicago thrift stores, where he finds clothing for less than a dollar. He likes to mysteriously acquire clothing from his friends without spending a dime. His big investment? The Chucks. However, if you divide the sale price of the shoes by the five years he has been wearing them, Fleming has paid only $5 a year for foot protection. I wish my Chucks lasted that long.
Hannah Kauffmann
"If I'm feeling a little more financially able, I like to shop at independent boutiques in Nob Hill."

$10 - Buffalo Exchange
Jeans
$12 - Buffalo Exchange
Kauffmann buys most of her clothing at Buffalo Exchange, but she likes to go to the mall every once in a while. It all depends on how much funding she has for shopping. She doesn't remember where she found her beige corduroy jacket, but it looks good.
Steven Pullman
"I try to save money and be fashionable."

$9.99 - Express in Albuquerque
Jeans
$19.99 - K&G's Men's Warehouse in Virginia
Jacket
$22.50 - Street vendor in Chinatown, New York City
Puma shoes
$45.00 - Champs Sports in Albuquerque
Pullman knows how to wheel and deal. He found his ill jacket in Chinatown, New York City, and scored two for $45.00. He brought his retail skills to the desert of Albuquerque and bought two pairs of Puma shoes for $89. Pullman bought his jeans in Virginia, but he said people in Albuquerque can find jeans for under $20 at Burlington Coat Factory. He said it's all about the deals on the side.
