Editor,
In response to the letter by Benjamin Sanchez published in the Daily Lobo on Friday in which he says that "stating that homosexuality is illogical and opposes human nature does not make one prejudiced," he is lying to himself by saying that it is not prejudice. How can one not be prejudiced by denouncing homosexuality as the downfall of civilization and culture? What Sanchez does not understand is that current biological research contradicts exactly what he is trying to prove.
As published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, the more older biological brothers from the same mother a man has, the higher probability that he will be gay.
This is important work and can help us come to understand that homosexuals could have played a main role in human population control, helped relatives rear their children and helped the community as a whole, as they would not have been burdened with the task of raising their own children.
However, it is precisely the thinking like that of Sanchez that has lead to murders, hate crimes and discrimination, which need to be stopped. Just being heterosexual does not grant one the right to visit hate on others who are not. This thinking was prevalent when African-Americans were persecuted and killed because they were thought of as less than natural. So keep spreading hate. That's the American way.
