Union of man and woman is the natural, moral law

The occurrence of promiscuous homosexual sex in public restrooms reveals a deeper problem in American culture. There is a large-scale breakdown of basic reason in the minds and behavior of many Americans.

A primary cause of this breakdown is moral relativism. Many people refuse to acknowledge the existence of fundamental norms of conduct for human behavior. Unlike other animals, which are regulated primarily by instinct, human beings have the profound ability of conceptual thought, through which we discover the truth of things. Through the use of our intellects, we understand reality, including ourselves, and we live according to this understanding through the exercise of free will.

This is what makes human life so rich - a deeper understanding of the world and a free and active participation in the world through this knowledge. The essence of moral relativism is a denial of the human ability to discover the truth about the world, especially about human beings. Many people state that it is impossible to give fundamental norms for human behavior that are always binding. Homosexual behavior is one example of this. However, we are capable of learning the truth about human sexuality. Why do human beings exist in two differentiated sexes - male and female? What does this mean for human behavior? Science - human reason in pursuit of the truth - provides some answers to these questions.

In a basic anatomy and physiology class, one learns about the human body and its functions. Based on this knowledge, it can be stated that the very functions of the human body orient man and woman to each other. A natural orientation to the opposite sex exists in every person. This is why man and woman are called complementary - one of a pair. Also, from this union comes new human life. The union of man and woman and the creation of new human life are why human beings exist in two differentiated sexes. From this basic knowledge, it is logical to conclude that heterosexuality is the authentic expression of human sexuality.

Stating that homosexuality is illogical and opposes human nature does not make one prejudiced, a bigot or any other pejorative word used today for people who oppose homosexual behavior. It is a stance for the truth. Classical philosophy teaches that human nature, which includes the light of understanding, is the great norm for human behavior. Through right reason, we know what to do and what to avoid. This is often called the natural moral law. It is the catalyst that pushes peoples and cultures forward. The rejection of it causes the downfall of a culture and eventually the country.
