Bridge repairs allow reopening of monument
SILVER CITY (AP) - Temporary repairs to a bridge damaged by flooding more than two weeks ago allowed the reopening of Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, monument Superintendent Steve Riley said Saturday. The state Department of Transportation completed temporary repairs to the West Fork bridge on Thursday, allowing access to the cliff dwellings, Upper and Lower Scorpion Campgrounds and other sites in the area.
Woman jumps from 19th floor of UN building
UNITED NATIONS (AP) - A woman who worked for the United Nations died Sunday after falling from the 19th floor of the U.N.'s Secretariat Building, authorities said. Police and U.N. security officers at the scene, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media, said the woman in her 40s had jumped from a window after showing up to work early in the morning.
Israeli troops clash with Palestinian militants
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - Israeli troops backed by aircraft and tanks clashed with Palestinian militants firing mortars and machine guns near Gaza's former international airport Sunday, killing three gunmen and a civilian, health officials said. More than 20 people were wounded, including several gunmen and a 45-year-old civilian who lives near the airport and was shot in the head, said Health Ministry official Moaiya Hassanain.
