Spotlight: Reza Imani

Daily Lobo: So what got you interested in biology?

Reza Imani: Well, I did my undergraduate degree in biology and I have just always been fascinated with science since I was young. Like watching "Mr. Wizard" and stuff like that.

DL: How did you decide that you wanted to become a doctor?

RI: Primarily because my mom is a physician and that is what initially got me interested in it, and then just volunteering in the hospital and doing research just made me see that I really liked being around patients and being in health care.

DL: What kind of medicine are you interested in studying?

RI: Infectious diseases or sports medicine.

DL: Why did you choose those?

RI: Well, I played sports and so I have always been interested in sports medicine, and the infectious disease part came from working in an infectious disease lab here in the biology department.

DL: Are you originally from NewˇMexico?

RI: No. I have lived here for threeˇyears, but I have lived in California, Boston, Iowa and now here.

DL: What brought you to New Mexico?

RI: Well, the mountains, weather, the people and the food. I thought it was a beautiful state.

DL: What kind of hobbies do you have?

RI: Painting, going out hiking, riding bikes, seeing a movie, finding good restaurants - that's always fun.

DL: What is your favorite restaurant?

RI: Oh, I just ate at the Slate Street Cafe for the first time. It's awesome - amazing.

DL: What kind of painting do youˇlike?

RI: Acrylic, kind of semi-abstract painting.

DL: Do you have a favorite artist?

RI: No, I just know what I like. I'm not educated as far as art goes. I know what I like when I see it.

DL: How did you get interested in painting?

RI: I have never really had any art classes. It is just a nice release from reading science all the time, you know, and doing that sort of stuff.
