Tirzah DeCaria is passionate about art.
And for her, that means sharing it.
DeCaria's work is far from conventional, and her style is not easily defined. Her work includes sculpture, printmaking, fiber arts, sewing and Japanese rod puppetry. She paints with oil on canvas or wood, and she works with encaustic wax and other materials to add texture.
DeCaria said she loves finding new ways to express herself.
"I think I've always enjoyed trying new things," she said. "I went to school, and I studied sculpture. But in my sculpture show, there were parts of it that were related to painting, to printmaking. Parts of it were related to collage, so (I enjoy) melding different materials. The experimentation of the art process has really always intrigued me."
DeCaria moved to Albuquerque about three years ago after earning her bachelor's from Xavier University in Cincinnati. She began doing art outreach with AmeriCorps.

DeCaria works as a freelance artist, and she is a yoga and art teacher.
"I think it's really exciting when there are big differences in what you intended and what people see," she said. "And that's when it starts becoming alive, because it starts existing in a different way in someone else's mind."
DeCaria's show, "Experiments of Possibility," opens Friday. It runs from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Source at 1111 Carlisle Blvd. N.E.
"Roots of Family" is one of the many pieces she will show Friday. It is an oil painting of a tree with a relief resin sculpture of a head as part of the tree's roots.
"It's a portrait of my grandfather," she said. "It's about how people, especially family, are a part of your evolution as a person, regardless of this being positive or negative."
