Editor,
Like many, I received an e-mail from UNM asking me to complete a survey to help with the University's effort at "branding." This effort is a waste of money and is fiscally irresponsible for a publicly funded university. There are far higher priorities for UNM to consider before it pays for a lengthy marketing campaign. The students of UNM, the community and the University as a whole would benefit far more if this same money were spent on recruiting and retaining talented faculty and staff and on upgrading UNM's infrastructure. If those actions were taken, a positive branding - what used to be called a reputation - would spread by itself.
