Recycling services available for all University offices

Editor,

Katie Newell was mistaken when she stated in her Sept. 12 letter to the editor that recycling bins had been permanently removed from Mesa Vista. The recycling bins were removed from the halls of Mesa Vista, but there are still many locations to recycle paper, glass and aluminum cans inside offices and departments at Mesa Vista.

If anyone wants to have recycling inside their own office, call recycling at 277-1681, and we will deliver bins to you. You can also call us if you just want to know the closest bin location to you. The large recycling bins by the dorms are removed every summer, but recycling can still be done in eight outdoor bins located throughout North and Main campuses, in the SUB or in bins in offices throughout campus. I can't imagine why Newell wasn't able to recycle old papers from her office, but if she calls 277-1681, we will certainly try to help her.

All paper is recyclable; only the method of preparing the paper for recycling is variable. This means that if her paper were confidential, it would have to be shredded before being recycled. UNM Recycling actively solicits input from our customers. Anybody who has questions or comments about the program is welcome to call me directly at 269-6131. You can also make an appointment to visit the recycling facility at 1642 University Blvd., between Indian School and Menaul.
