Editor,
After reading your review for "The Clone Wars," I was a little disappointed. I was disappointed in the maturity of the author of the review. I am not here to tell you George Lucas' latest creation is the movie of the year. Commenting on this movie is beneath me, as should it be beneath the author. The equivalent would be an author of the Economist discussing the latest episode of "Pokemon." The negative attitude here is getting tiresome. Ever since the new movies came out, bitter old-school fans have been whining relentlessly. Admittedly, the first two prequels are weak. The third one, however, was not only better than the first two - it was also better than the original. But let's not go and turn the original movies into something they are not.
I enjoyed the original trilogy, but the movies weren't Shakespeare. They were filled with Muppets, Ewoks and C-3PO. And who could forget Mark Hamill's facial expressions when he learns Vader is his father? Also, don't forget Princess Leia's British accent, which vanishes halfway through the first movie and never resurfaces. Or how about the Stormtroopers who can't shoot a 7-foot Wookie that's right in front of them or fight off Ewoks half their size and armed with wooden spears?
These old-school fans were kids when they saw these movies, so they liked them. They're grown up now and can't appreciate the new movies that are aimed more at the next generation of children and less at the adults who grew up watching the old ones. I've talked to a lot of kids who said "Attack of the Clones" was the best Star Wars movie ever. At age 11, I saw "Episode I" and adored it. As for this new movie, it's for kids. I knew that when I saw previews for it. The thing is, Lucas didn't ruin anything. He's not stupid; he knows what he's doing. He's marketing entertainment for kids because that's what sells. He has box office numbers to back that up. The only reason people take the old movies so seriously is because they were children when they saw them. I cannot relate to their bitterness. Obviously, these people have no other life than clinging to their pathetic childhood.
