Column: McCain right for young voters

There is no denying Sen. John McCain has fought his entire life for his country. There is no denying McCain has the experience necessary to lead a country. There is no denying McCain has a concrete plan to fix our nation's problems - a plan that, to many of us, is the right plan.

McCain has a record of remarkable leadership and experience that can carry the American people into the next generation of greatness. He is the right choice for all Americans, especially young people. The decisions that are made today will affect us for the rest of our lives.

Education is something that is near and dear to all of our hearts. All students in college are there because they want to be. We don't like the tests, term papers or 8 a.m. classes, but we do want to better ourselves and secure our future. McCain has pledged to make college more affordable and more accessible. He will pave the way in eliminating financial burdens so that all young people may enjoy the benefits of education.

Young people are going to pay the price for global warming, and McCain recognizes this. He is committed to addressing the growing threat of climate change. McCain vows to implement a cap-and-trade system that allows carbon to be reduced in an economically efficient manner. He also strongly supports developing new technologies and awarding innovation - a cornerstone of American ideology.

Social Security as it exists will impose a crippling expense on our generation. McCain will fight to ensure that we will enjoy the same benefits our parents and grandparents enjoy today. McCain supports supplementing the current Social Security system with personal accounts - but not as a substitute for addressing benefit promises that cannot be kept.

The war in Iraq is something that concerns us all. McCain is determined to bring our troops home victoriously once the job we started is complete. Our country needs to fight radical Islamic extremism, and if we withdraw our troops from Iraq too quickly, we will be forced to return. McCain understands that Americans are angry, frustrated and fed up, but once the Iraqi government wields greater authority, Iraqi leaders can take steps on their own to secure peace in the region.

This election is the most significant our generation has seen. Youths must look at the candidates and decide who has the best plan to ensure their future success. Many important issues in this election have been overcomplicated and clouded by shallow attacks by both sides. We all need to actively engage and look at the facts of who will make the best president. I believe that person is McCain. You have the privilege of making your own judgment. No matter which candidate you support, the most crucial thing is to vote on Nov. 4.

Kelly Rzendzian is a state leader for the youth coalition for John McCain.
