Fraternity coverage shouldn't single out one organization

Editor,

After reading the article written about the Sigma Chi party, I was upset to hear your newspaper failed to mention the other events that occurred that weekend. First, I will mention that I was an attendee at that party. I know the boys who had that party, and it was never intended to be a Sigma Chi event.

All of this, however, is beside the point due to the fact that we cannot change what is in the police report even with its exaggerated and misconstrued details. There are multiple events that also occurred that weekend and were equivalent, if not worse, than the Sigma Chi party. There are writers at your newspaper who are also in the Greek community and know very well about these events. If you are going to write an article hurting the name and reputation of a fraternity that has worked so incredibly hard to bring its chapter back, I think you need to mention the other problems and scandals among the other fraternities who seem to be taking their charters for granted.

There are many fraternities getting in trouble. However, you mentioned only one. Parties are broken up by the police all the time. Every fraternity has had at least one party busted by the cops, and yet you've mentioned only Sigma Chi in an attempt to make them look bad. Sigma Chi is a group of amazing young men who work and study hard. The fact that their name is even tied to the party is truly unfortunate, especially because of the lack of members actually in attendance. All the UNM fraternities are getting in trouble, and if you are going to write an article hurting the reputation and name of one, I feel it's necessary to at the very least investigate the other scandals and events that occurred among the others.
