Question of the Week

Should UNM's GPA admission requirement be raised to 2.5?

Greg Raudenbush

Senior

Sociology

"Yes. It would improve academics. It would definitely help students get better prepared."

Jaymie Roybal

Freshman

Political science

"I think it's a good idea that they want to raise the GPA. It makes the people who really want to come to school work harder to be admitted."

Daryl Candelaria

Junior

Political science

"No. Yeah, it'll make students work harder, but I think that institutions like CNM will have a higher enrollment. It seems like more students will be held back."

Cathy Brandonburg

Graduate student

Archaeology

"I don't think they should raise it. We're going to get a lot less people. The more variety you have, the better chance you get high-quality people. I think a lot of people may do really poor in high school but then get into college and really find their niche."

Peter Martinez

Senior

Criminology

"It's bad in the sense that it would limit a lot of people and make it harder to get in. But it's good because it heightens the standards and makes (UNM) have a little more prestige."
