Editor,
I was outraged and offended to read that Brandon Curtis referred to the Holy Bible as a mere book of mythology in an attempt to single-handedly dismiss the arguments against abortion and gay marriage. It reflects a total disrespect toward anyone who disagrees with his ill-conceived notions about abortion or marriage.
Even though the Bible is a book of spiritual symbolism, it is replete with personal accounts written by real people such as you and me many thousands of years ago. There is archaeological evidence to prove that the Bible is not a book of mythology. For instance, the remnants of Sodom and Gomorrah were discovered in a region southeast of the Dead Sea. And remnants of Noah's Ark were reported in a Washington Times article written by Bill Gertz.
As for abortion, there is plenty of scientific evidence that post-abortion women deal with a plethora of physical, emotional and psychological complications, as researched and compiled by National Right to Life. Even women that seek to have a safe, legal abortion will face some kind of risk of having at least one of these medical complications. Abort73.com reports that 88 percent of all abortions in the United States happen during the first trimester. I would claim that any abortion performed after the fifth week of the first trimester is definitely murder because at that point the unborn human being develops a distinct heartbeat of its own.
