Editor,
I am disappointed with the objectivity the Daily Lobo staff has shown in matters pertaining to President David Schmidly. You have run article after article on your front page blasting him and his administration without any representation from different views.
When the student Senate, a group of students elected by students, decided to issue a vote of confidence in Schmidly, you ran a story, yes, but ran an even more prominent story when the vote didn't happen.
It's journalism 101 to be able to write objectively about your subject matter, even if you disagree. Reading the stories this newspaper staff prints about our University president is like listening to Sean Hannity explain Barack Obama's policies. Perhaps Schmidly's budget cuts hit a little too close to home for the Daily Lobo. I want a University newspaper that is a voice for all, not just those who editorialize their supposedly "objective" reporting on this University's president.
When the student Senate was proposing to issue a vote of confidence in Schmidly, it showed us that it might see a side of him that the Daily Lobo staff is seemingly censoring from the students, faculty and staff. This budget crisis is difficult, but the last thing that will solve it is for the Daily Lobo staff to undermine every positive action Schmidly enacts.
Start doing your jobs objectively, Daily Lobo staff, and perhaps I'll read past the first paragraph of your coverage of Schmidly and his administration. Do your jobs, and print a letter from a person who has a different viewpoint from your own.
