Obama has already brought change beyond expectations

Editor,

This is in response to the letter written on Feb. 4 by Andres Saenz concerning President Obama's "failure to keep promises."

First of all, Obama has been in office for about two months. Give him a break. He is only human. As far as the inauguration, I have heard different accounts of how much it cost. Anyway, there are more important spending issues at hand. The $700 billion bailout package came from an administration that has proven to be irresponsible, greedy and unintelligent. The first half of that bailout package has been spent, and who knows where it has gone.

The decision by George W. Bush to leave $350 billion of the package to Obama was probably the smartest decision he made. A question to ask is, Would the economy have been worse if we had not taken action immediately? We will never know. Fortunately, action was taken to prevent a worse crisis than what we are experiencing today.

Obama pledged during his campaign that he would fight for middle-class Americans and restructure government spending. I am elated by the fact that Obama is going to spend money on us; that is exactly what he promised to do. This $819 billion stimulus package, which is the boldest action taken by any country, will boost consumer demand, create infrastructure jobs for the short term while creating long-term jobs by transitioning to a green economy. How is this not good for us? How can you say he hasn't kept his promises when, so far, all his actions have been on behalf of the people?

So far, we have seen change beyond what we expected from his unique approach as president to keep us informed almost every day. This is something this country has never seen before, and we should embrace it and give support to our leader.
