Web sites that will keep you clicking

There's a lot of crap on the Internet.

With more than 8 billion Web pages in Google's directory, what's a guy to do? How do you know the sites that are worth your time? I've got your back on this one. After sifting through the ashes for the golden nuggets, I bring you four wonders of the Web.

AddictingGames.com - Possibly the best site for free online free gaming, this is the place to go when death-by-boredom seems imminent. Featuring games from popular developers such as Armor Games and Crazy Monkey Games, this site has got everything from mindless "Tetris" rip-offs to brand-new concepts such as "DeConstruction," in which the player tries to destroy buildings, and old favorites such as "Kitten Cannon," which works exactly as it sounds. With many genres of games - such as puzzle, action-adventure and role-playing - anyone should find entertainment at Addicting Games. Even better, the site allows users to rate each game, so you can avoid wasting time on something mindlessly boring and spend it on something mindlessly entertaining.

Hulu.com - Since its minute-long Super Bowl spot, Hulu might not be so unknown anymore, but for anyone curious, it's the best place to watch online TV. Hulu features some of the most popular shows on television from multiple networks, such as "The Daily Show," "The Simpsons," "Family Guy," "The Office," and "Saturday Night Live." Also, Hulu features canceled shows such as "Arrested Development" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." The site also has a changing selection of great online movies. The commercial breaks are only 30 seconds long, which is better than the 5-minute breaks on regular TV. Viewers can watch their shows at 360 pixels for slower connections or at 480 pixels with a faster Internet connection. Hulu is the premium site for all online television needs.

GiveawayOfTheDay.com - This suave little site gives away free software every day. What they'll give away depends on the day, but they have given Edraw, a program for diagrams, and AltDesk, which creates virtual desktops. The staggering variety of programs should inspire Web crawlers to check in often. There are simple programs such as file managers, antivirus and spyware finders, and even encryption software. The best part is all the software is verified adware- and spyware-free, so there's no need to worry about catching a virus that will burst your computer into flames.

TheLonelyIsland.com - Ever heard of "Laser Cats," or "Dick in a Box," or, for that matter, ever watched an SNL digital short? Comedians Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer run this Web site, which is full of the same offbeat humor. In case you've never seen any of these shorts, they are the cream of the crop of low-production comedy. Remember high school, that one class where you had to make a video, and some group always made a hilarious one, whether it was due to clever humor or unintentional flops, and the whole class laughed and cheered at the sheer genius of its stupidity? That's what The Lonely Island is all about. Forget the other losers on YouTube. Stick to the dudes' flicks, such as "The 'Bu," a sweet parody of "The O.C." with ninjas, or check out their pilot for a show, "Awesome Town," or even just watch their music videos. If that doesn't sate your appetite for hilarity, check out their movie "Hot Rod" or listen to their new album Incredibad.
