Editor,
I have always been an independent voter who voted for the person I thought was truly devoted to serving the best interests of all instead of only one political party or any special interests.
I voted for Barack Obama in November because I felt he was truly devoted to bringing about needed changes that would be good for all of us. He promised us there would be transparency in government if he were elected president, and yes, there is a great deal more openness than before.
He promised that he would go line-by-line through any bill authorizing by the federal government to spend money and eliminate any spending for what might be called pet projects of individual congressmen. When he made that promise, I thought this was great because then Obama had a way to prove to the citizens of this country that he is trustworthy. Sadly, he did not keep that promise. This gives those who oppose him, solely for their personal gain, the opportunity to use his failure to attack all that he is trying to do.
The broken promise also raises doubts about his integrity in the minds of those who supported him. At the very least, he owes all of us an explanation for this nonaction on his part. It would be much better if he used his executive power to prevent money from being spent for these special interest projects as he promised us he would.
