Crime Briefs

April 11

A UNM police officer was dispatched to Sigma Alpha Epsilon, at 1811 Mesa Vista Dr. N.E., in response to vandalism. Two residents said a brick with two smoke bombs was thrown through a window, breaking the glass and filling the house with smoke. Six hours later, a fire extinguisher was thrown through the same window. UNMPD has not identified a suspect.

April 12

A UNM Police officer was dispatched to Johnson Field in reference to a young man reported to be smoking marijuana. The officer located the young man, who was not a student. He was preparing to play soccer. The officer found a joint and a small amount of marijuana in the man's cleats. The man was cited for possessing a controlled substance.

Officers were dispatched twice this week to the UNM Mental Health Center at Marble Avenue on North Campus. The first incident was a patient causing an "extreme disturbance." The second was an unauthorized patient leaving the facility. Both patients were stabilized and remained in the hospital for care.
