Daily Lobo: So were your parents big fans of "Top Gun" or something?
Maverick Paul Nazelrod: Yeah, I get that every day. No, actually my mother's lawyer was named Maverick, and she didn't have a name for me. And then he called when she was in labor, so that's kind of the story. And "Top Gun" came out after I was born.
DL: So you get that all the time, then?
MN: Yeah. But my dog's name is Goose.
DL: Why don't you just have a pet goose?
MN: Yeah, that would be better. You're right.

DL: Why are you majoring in biology?
MN: Because I love animals, and one day I want to be a wildlife biologist, and, I don't know, go to Australia and study lizards or something. I want to better the planet, I guess, is the simple answer.
DL: So, what's your mom's name, Maverick?
MN: Melody Swan.
DL: And your dad's name?
MN: Steve.
DL: What does Nazelrod mean?
MN: It's German for "small, red bush." And the way you pronounce it in German is "Ness-uhl-ro-den."
DL: What are you working on now?
MN: I'm looking into buying a laptop.
DL: Have you decided?
MN: PCs are a little bit faster, but Macs are way more user-friendly. There are offs and ons, you know, like everything.
DL: Do you have any hobbies?
MN: I make some music. I snowboard. I write some poetry, and I love just walking around, or on my bike, meeting people.
DL: You're an extrovert?
MN: Definitely an extrovert. I'm kind of co-dependent, honestly.
DL: What does that mean?
MN: (laughs) I hate being alone. I just like talking to people. Talking to people lets me, you know, have my thoughts out there. Instead of having one wall to bounce against, I have many walls to bounce against. It's like playing racquetball with yourself instead of playing with another person. You know what I mean?
DL: Yeah, I can see that.
