Rise slate has what it takes to move University forward

Editor,

With the 2009 ASUNM election coming up, I have given a lot of thought as to whom I will be supporting.

As a current ASUNM senator, I have seen the work and time commitments that are required to hold an office. I have had the opportunity to work closely with Monika Roberts and David Conway as members of the Finance Committee. In addition, I have also had the opportunity to work alongside the candidates from the opposing slate. However, I truly feel that Roberts and Conway possess the qualities needed to lead our University forward.

Through my experience, I have been able to witness firsthand their dedication, work ethic and aspirations for the UNM community. The two have spent countless hours collaborating and putting together a group of individuals who are known as the Rise slate. Each slate member represents a different population of UNM, making them a true depiction of the diversity that our University represents.

One thing that has struck me about the Rise slate is its goals and ambitions for our University's future. With more than 17 semesters of ASUNM experience, and the leadership of Roberts and Conway, Rise has the ability to truly make a difference for our campus. Many of their goals include improving student advisement, increasing student outreach, advocating for alternative transportation and increasing sustainability throughout our campus.

The Rise slate is very practical and realistic. They know what can and cannot be done, so they don't make empty promises to students. With the Rise slate, you know what you are getting and there are no surprises. Rise offers experience, commitment and ambition. It is because of this that I have chosen to fully support the members of the Rise slate. I encourage all UNM students to join me and rise to the challenge as I vote for the Rise slate today.
