Editor,
Beth Johnson's letter concerning the GPSA election was condescending. Graduate and undergraduate students pay tuition, and it is unfair to single out ASUNM's only concern as being "the Homecoming football dance."
All the ASUNM senators I have met take their responsibilities as student representatives seriously, and they devote a lot of their free time toward working hard on what they believe is in the best interest of the students. Whether I agree with them 100 percent of the time does not change the hard work they put in every day. I myself do not have favorable opinions on the proposed recreation center, but that is no reason to write off all the undergrad senators participating in community service.
We share this school, and if there's a problem, then we need to work together to fix it, not write each other off. Johnson's attitude is the kind that shuns progress, turns people away from civic engagement and discourages people from becoming involved to make it better - be they undergrads, graduate students or citizens in general. Whether the next GPSA president is B. Lee Drake or Lissa Knudsen, I hope he or she understands that.
