Anderson to hold session on fund-management program

Staff Report

The Anderson School of Management will host an information session today about courses that let students manage millions of dollars in real investments.

The Investment Management Program is designed to teach students how to manage investment funds from various sources with guidance from Anderson faculty and the Anderson Investment Advisory Committee.

The Investment Management Program session will be in Anderson's Jackson Student Center at 6 p.m. today.

Program manager Jennifer Bayley said the program gives students an opportunity to experience real-world financial situations.

"(Students who come to the session) will gain a sense of the professional quality of feedback that the students receive from the people in the program," she said. "(Students) can learn more about the courses used for this program and which courses they can be involved in for this experience."

Bayley said about 70 students participated in the program during the past academic school year. The money used for the program is provided by the New Mexico State Investment Council and the UNM Regents' Endowment Fund, she said in a news release.

Students enrolled in investment-management courses will talk about their stock and portfolio recommendations to investment professionals who serve on the Anderson Investment Advisory Committee. These professionals represent the New Mexico State Investment Council and other local business firms.

Committee members provided participating students with feedback throughout last year.

Suleiman Kassicieh, director of the Investment Management Program, said in a news release that the program prepares students to make sound investment decisions.

"Students with this kind of experience are ready to step into investment positions anywhere in the world, armed with the skills to analyze and manage funds," he said. "Graduating students with these skills, combined with our state's high quality of life and a highly networked world, can make New Mexico a pivotal financial investment center."
