Editor,
I am writing to voice my concern about the lack of recycling bins on campus.
There are probably hundreds of garbage cans around campus, but only a few dozen recycling bins. Why is this? How hard would it be to remove half the garbage cans and replace them with recycling bins?
Also, several recycling bins around the dorms have vanished. I looked for a new place to recycle my waste, but I am sure most of my fellow students will not.
Sometimes if I see a garbage can before I see a recycling bin, I will throw away recyclable materials. I can only imagine most people do the same. The only way for a recycling program to be effective is by making it convenient.
I do not blame this on the Recycling Department, but I would like to know why UNM does not take recycling seriously. My educated guess is that UNM is probably one of the most environmentally unfriendly campuses in the country.

I urge all in positions of power to do what they can to improve our recycling services on campus to make it easy to recycle.
