Concepto tambor

This Friday night, it’s all about letting your hair down and wearing that dress or suit you never thought you would ever wear again.

And it will save your $2 on admission at the Launchpad on Saturday.

Concepto Tambor and La Flamilia firedancing troop are in New Mexico for three nights to perform a Cabernet style show with their Afro-Latin drum songs.

Christian Orellana is one of the bands many drummers. Depending on the night, they can have anywhere from 8 to 12 bands members. Orellana said this is the third tour Concepto Tambor and La Flamilia have done together.

“It has progressed from the first tour which was them doing their performance and us doing our performance,” he said. “The second year was a little more integrated. And the third year now they have choreographed some dances to our music. Especially for this AlleyKat Cabaret (Tour), it has become kind of like a Broadway production.”
La Flamilia also does fire dancing to some of the Concepto Tambor songs, which fit in with the cabaret theme.

“We’re trying to capture the essence of the cabaret,” Orellana said. “It was a radical environment for a lot of bohemians. An environment like that was for people to hang out.”

Matias Pizarro, founders and drummer for Concepto Tambor, said the band wants everyone to dress in cabaret because it adds to the experience.

“I think it adds a lot because the cabaret has political, comedic and sensual elements,” he said. “And it wasn’t that hard to get into character because we’re a bunch of traveling bohemians.”
