Floridians should take action to stop Quran burning

Editor,

There are times that call for words and there are times that call for action. The Qur’an burning scheduled by Rev. Terry Jones on Saturday is a time that calls for action. If this event is permitted to occur, the effect will be catastrophic. There is only a minute minority of the citizens of this country who support this event. The vast majority of us must not remain passive as this minute minority of us commits an act that we do not sanction and that will have severe detrimental effects for us all, all over the world.

There is still time for enough people to occupy the small church in Gainesville, Florida and prevent this event from taking place, by seizing the copies of the Qur’an that Rev. Terry Jones is planning to burn and taking them to a safe place and ensuring that not one copy of the Quran is burned. It is imperative that this be done to demonstrate to the world that we, in the United States, are not religious bigots that commit acts in the name of a god we have created to placate our egos.

If I were in Florida, I would immediately begin organizing enough people to prevent any burning of Qur’ans. Since I am in New Mexico, not Florida, I implore critically thinking people in Florida, who desire what is best for this country, and the world, to do what is required to prevent the burning on a single copy of the Qur’an.
