University closure notices need to be more timely, considerate

Editor,

I believe it’s appalling how administrators decided to close campus 30 minutes before classes started.

I, for one, live in Edgewood and left more than an hour before class started to give myself time, believing there was just a two-hour delay. I pull into the parking lot and wait for a bus to come, along with about 12 other cars full of dedicated students. I received a text message at 9:27 a.m. and 9:40 a.m. and found out campus was closed.

My professor e-mailed me as well, apologizing and explaining he was already in class preparing and working with early-coming students when he was told.

This is unacceptable. I desperately hope that in the future a better level of preemptive action is taken for UNM students and staff’s safety, as well as to attempt to raise the ridiculously poor and almost pitiful reputation UNM continues to hold true.
As a UNM student, I expect a higher level of responsibility and communication with students and staff.
