Editor,
“Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind. War will exist until that distant day when the conscientious objector enjoys the same reputation and prestige that the warrior does today.”
Those words were spoken by John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States less than three score years ago.
And now, in 2012, most of the “goods” manufactured in the United States that are exported to other countries are weapons of war. It seems to me this indicates those in positions of power in the United States in 2012 have opted for the end of mankind instead of the end of war.
It also seems to me that the reason this is true is because war is profitable for those in positions of power and peace is not. However, it might be wise for those in positions of power in the United States to ponder how long war will continue to be profitable for anyone because it puts an end to mankind.
